Now Seeking: BHMS PTSA Executive Board Members for the 2024-2025 School Year!

It is time once again for the PTSA Nominating Committee to recruit candidates to hold PTSA Executive Board positions for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. The goal of the nominating committee is to enlist the talents of as many BHMS parents, friends and family as possible. The PTSA is a non-profit organization that works to promote the health and welfare of children and youth and shall seek to promote collaboration between parents, schools, and the community at large.

The nominating committee’s responsibility is to consider all persons interested in a particular PTSA position.

  • You show your children that school matters, and that you are invested in their success.

  • You demonstrate to your child that success in school is the pathway to college, a career and a productive life!

  • You partner with the principal, teachers and staff to make your child's school safe, welcoming, a hub of learning, and a fun place to be.

  • You share in campus events and experiences that make your child’s school days more memorable!

  • You connect with other parents, and become part California State PTA and National PTA, the largest and most powerful children’s advocacy organization in the country.

  • You help make sure parents and family members voices are heard when important decisions that affect your school are made.

Duties of Officers

President:

  • Coordinates officers and committees, presides at PTSA meetings, attends PTA District and Council meetings, and works closely with the Principal, Administration & Staff.

  • Time: Presides at monthly evening PTA board meetings.

  • Year-long commitment including work over summer.

VP (Membership):

  • Runs the annual and mid-year membership campaigns.

  • Time: Attends monthly evening PTSA Board meetings. 

  • Workload is heaviest at the beginning and middle of the school year.

VP (Programs):

  • Responsible for implementing the PTSA goal of parent education including but not limited to articles, flyers, and workshops.

  • Responsible for organizing the annual Bobcat Bash event.

  • Serves as a liaison to the PTSA program chairs including: Math & Science Olympiad, Reflections, Red Ribbon Week/Character Counts, Honorary Service Awards, etc.

  • Time: Attends monthly evening PTSA Board meetings.

  • Workload varies throughout the year depending on choice of educational initiative. 

VP (Volunteers):

  • Coordinates the Parent Volunteer Program sign-ups during registration for all grade levels.

  • Liaison to ASB Leaders, Teachers and Parents regarding volunteer opportunities throughout the school year. 

  • Time: Attends monthly evening PTSA Board meetings.

  • Workload is heaviest at the beginning of the school year.

VP (Fundraising):

  • Oversees and helps committee chairs in charge of fundraisers, including the Book Fair and Read-a-Thon. 

  • Time: Attends monthly evening PTSA Board meetings.

  • Workload is heaviest during various fundraisers.

Secretary:

  • Attends and records Minutes of all PTSA Board meetings.

  • Sends meeting minutes out via email following each meeting

  • Time: Attends monthly evening PTSA Board meetings

  • Variable workload.

Treasurer:

  • Keeps permanent books of all monetary transactions and performs all duties expected of a Treasurer. 

  • Monthly reporting of financial activity at each meeting

  • Time: Attends monthly evening PTSA Board meetings in addition to a workload that varies.

Financial Secretary:

  • Assists Treasurer with monetary transactions and recording duties. 

  • Time: Attends monthly evening PTSA Board meetings.

  • Variable workload.

Financial Reviewer:

  • Audits books of the Treasurer, gives semi-annual written reports; and reconciles bank accounts monthly. 

  • Time: Attends monthly evening PTSA Board meetings.

  • Variable workload.

Historian:

  • Records activities and achievements of the PTSA and assists the President with preparation of the annual report. 

  • Time: Attends monthly evening PTSA Board meetings.

  • Workload varies.

Parliamentarian:

  • Ensures that all officers are familiar with the PTSA bylaws.

  • Ensures that the bylaws are up-to-date. Assists with the components of the election of officers each year. 

  • Time: Attends monthly evening PTSA Board meetings and PTSA General Association Meetings.

  • Variable workload.
